Oil exploration on Brahmaputra riverbed opposed PDF Print E-mail
DIBRUGARH, July 1 – The proposed oil exploration on the Brahmaputra riverbed by the Oil India Limited, Duliajan has come under attack from several organisations. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Sodau Asom Mottock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan and the Toilokhetro Suraksha Sangram Samity have urged the concerned company to take into consideration the impact it would have on the environment while conducting the investigation.
In a memorandum submitted to the CM today through the deputy commissioner, Dibrugarh, the three organisations have said that the exploration will destroy the ecology and also pose threat to the aquatic animals and the common man by way of pollution. They have urged the concerned authorities to assess the environment impact before initiating the survey. http://www.assamtribune.com
