India only player off shore oil exploration in Sri Lanka PDF Print E-mail

The Sunday Times FT recently reported that three companies, Cairn India Ltd, ONGC Videsh Ltd and Niko Resources (Cyprus) Ltd have submitted six bids for oil exploration in Blocks 2 (3,338 sq. kms) 3 (3,572 sq. kms) and 4 (4,126 sq kms). When the newspaper asked the Minister of Petroleum Resources why other companies did not bid in spite of the vigorous road shows in London, Houston and Kuala Lumpur in September 2007 and where it was reported that "hundreds of companies expressed interest", the answer given is "I do not know".

One billion barrels of crude in Mannar Basin PDF Print E-mail
The overseas-arm of the state run ONGC, ONGC Videsh, which paid one million dollars for acquiring data in the Mannar offshore basin in Sri Lanka, and Cairn India have bid for oil exploration blocks in the island.

New oil refinery for Hambantota PDF Print E-mail
Uditha Kumarasinghe, Rajmi Manatunga and Thushara Kaluarachchi

COLOMBO: A new oil refinery is to be set up in Hambantota for supplying refined oil to the global market.

The refinery with a capacity of 100,000 oil barrels per day is also expected to provide oil for domestic consumption when the existing Sapugaskanda refinery is unable to meet the demand.

Sri Lankan Government offers two oil blocks to India and China PDF Print E-mail

Colombo, 09 July, (Asiantribune.com): The Sri Lankan Government has decided to grant two Black Gold blocks to India and China on a preferential basis. "The Cabinet decision permitting the offering was granted last Wednesday," Minister of Petroleum Resources Development AH.M. Fowzie told the "Asian Tribune."
